Overview

MSC11FCD is an investigational cell therapy composed of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) engineered to express a non-human cytosine deaminase (CD) suicide gene. The therapy is designed for intratumoral administration, particularly into the resection cavity of patients with recurrent glioblastoma following surgical removal of the tumor. Once administered, these modified MSCs convert the orally administered prodrug 5-flucytosine into 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), a cytotoxic agent that targets residual tumor cells locally. This approach leverages the tumor-homing properties and low immunogenicity of MSCs to deliver targeted chemotherapy within the brain while minimizing systemic toxicity. Clinical studies have shown that MSC11FCD was safe and demonstrated clinical efficacy in recurrent glioblastoma patients, with no severe adverse events or dose-dependent toxicities observed[1][2][3][4]. The therapy was developed by CHA University.
