Overview

**MSCTRAIL** is an investigational cell and gene therapy consisting of human allogeneic umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) transduced with a lentiviral vector to express TNF-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL). These immune-privileged cells selectively migrate to tumor stroma, where they deliver TRAIL to induce apoptosis in cancer cells while sparing healthy tissue, demonstrating synergistic activity with chemotherapy in preclinical models of lung metastases. Developed by researchers at University College London, it is being evaluated in the TACTICAL phase I/II trial (NCT03298763) in combination with pemetrexed/cisplatin and/or pembrolizumab as first-line therapy for metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) without actionable mutations.[1][2][3]
