Overview

MSI-195 (STRADA™) is a proprietary, once-daily oral formulation of S-adenosylmethionine (SAM-e) developed by MSI Methylation Sciences, Inc. for the adjunctive treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD). SAM-e is a naturally occurring molecule that serves as the primary methyl donor in the body, playing a critical role in the one-carbon cycle. By facilitating the methylation of DNA, proteins, and phospholipids, SAM-e influences the synthesis and regulation of monoamine neurotransmitters such as serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine, which are often dysregulated in depression. MSI-195 was designed to optimize the bioavailability and dosing convenience of SAM-e compared to standard commercial products. It was evaluated in the Phase 2 HORIZON trial as an add-on therapy for patients with MDD who had an inadequate response to standard antidepressants.
