mSJ-650 is a genetically engineered, next-generation oncolytic vaccinia virus (Wyeth strain) developed by SillaJen for the treatment of solid tumors, including breast, colorectal, and lung cancers. It is designed specifically for systemic intravenous administration by incorporating the human complement regulatory protein CD55 onto its viral envelope, which shields the virus from complement-mediated clearance and neutralizing antibodies in the bloodstream. Additionally, mSJ-650 is engineered to express murine granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (mGM-CSF) in place of the thymidine kinase (TK) gene, enhancing tumor selectivity and stimulating a robust anti-tumor immune response [LB354]. mSJ-650 serves as the murine surrogate for SillaJen's clinical candidate SJ-650.
