Drug intelligence / Profile preview
An MSLN-neutralizing antibody is a monoclonal antibody designed to target and block mesothelin (MSLN), a cell-surface glycoprotein. While historically investigated primarily in oncology (such as mesothelioma, ovarian cancer, and pancreatic cancer) to inhibit tumor cell adhesion and proliferation, recent preclinical research has identified MSLN as a therapeutic target in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). In fibrotic lung disease, MSLN is upregulated in epithelial cells adjacent to fibrotic foci, where it promotes a pro-fibrotic niche through multicellular crosstalk with TIMP1+ fibroblasts and SPP1+ macrophages. Neutralizing antibodies against MSLN disrupt these pathogenic cellular interactions, reducing collagen deposition and attenuating pulmonary fibrosis in animal models.
