Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MSP-1009 is a next-generation psychedelic drug candidate developed by **Mindset Pharma** (now a subsidiary of **Otsuka Pharmaceutical**). It is a novel prodrug of **psilocin**, the active metabolite of psilocybin, and belongs to Mindset's "Family 1" of tryptamine compounds. MSP-1009 is designed to optimize the therapeutic potential of psilocybin-like molecules by improving safety, efficacy, and pharmacokinetics, specifically targeting the **5-HT2A (serotonin 2A) receptor**. As a backup candidate to the lead compound **MSP-1014**, it is intended for the treatment of various neuropsychiatric and neurological conditions, such as **treatment-resistant depression** and other central nervous system (CNS) disorders. Pre-clinical data suggest that MSP-1009 exhibits high oral bioavailability and a potentially superior side-effect profile compared to traditional psilocybin, with evidence of increased target engagement and reduced off-target effects.
