MSP2-C1/ISA720 is an investigational recombinant protein subunit vaccine designed to target the blood-stage of *Plasmodium falciparum* malaria. It consists of two recombinant isoforms (3D7 and FC27) of the merozoite surface protein 2 (MSP2) antigen, formulated in equal amounts with the water-in-oil emulsion adjuvant Montanide ISA 720. Developed by the Queensland Institute of Medical Research (QIMR) in collaboration with the PATH Malaria Vaccine Initiative, the vaccine aims to induce antibodies that inhibit the invasion of red blood cells by merozoites. Although Phase 1 trials in Australia demonstrated immunogenicity and some parasite growth inhibition, the program was discontinued following unexpected reactogenicity at higher doses, and no further investment was made by the PATH Malaria Vaccine Initiative.
