MSV-ABX (also known as MSV-nAb-PTX or MSV/ABX) is an experimental nanotherapeutic formulation consisting of nanoparticle albumin-bound paclitaxel (Abraxane) loaded into a Multi-Stage Nanovector (MSV) delivery system composed of mesoporous silicon particles. Developed by the Houston Methodist Research Institute, MSV-ABX is designed to overcome biophysical barriers and enhance the delivery of paclitaxel to the tumor microenvironment, particularly in hypovascularized tumors such as liver metastases of breast, colorectal, and lung cancers, as well as pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. The MSV carrier redirects the transport of Abraxane from tumor blood vessels toward tumor-associated macrophages, which internalize, retain, and slowly release the drug, creating a localized depot that increases therapeutic efficacy and reduces systemic toxicity.
