MSV allogeneic bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stromal cells is an investigational cell therapy developed by the University Hospital of Montpellier for the treatment of chronic low back pain associated with degenerative disc disease (DDD). The product consists of mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) harvested from the bone marrow of healthy allogeneic donors and expanded in vitro under Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) conditions. These cells are delivered via a single intradiscal injection into the affected intervertebral disc. The therapeutic mechanism is primarily paracrine, where the MSCs secrete a variety of anti-inflammatory cytokines, growth factors, and extracellular matrix precursors. This secretome helps to modulate the inflammatory environment within the disc, reduce pain, and potentially stimulate the regeneration of disc tissue. The therapy has been evaluated in clinical trials such as the multicenter RESPINE study.
