MSV alogénicas (also known as Células Mesenquimales Cultivadas alogénicas - Valladolid) is an allogeneic cell therapy consisting of expanded bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stromal cells (BM-MSCs). Developed by the Instituto de Terapia Regenerativa Tisular (ITRT) in collaboration with the Instituto de Biología y Genética Molecular (IBGM) at the University of Valladolid, the therapy is specifically designed for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis. The cells are cultured ex vivo under Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) conditions and administered via a single intra-articular injection. Its mechanism of action involves the promotion of tissue repair and the modulation of inflammation through paracrine signaling and immunomodulatory effects. A Phase IIb randomized controlled trial (NCT01586312) demonstrated that the therapy provides significant pain relief and improves cartilage quality in patients with chronic knee osteoarthritis, showing superior results compared to hyaluronic acid controls. Currently, the treatment is available in Spain under individual authorization from the Spanish Agency of Medicines and Medical Devices (AEMPS).
