Overview

MT-0814 is a small-molecule benzylpiperidine compound that acts as an antagonist of the CC chemokine receptor 3 (CCR3). It is being developed primarily by Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma for the treatment of exudative (wet) age-related macular degeneration (AMD). The drug’s mechanism involves inhibiting CCR3, which is believed to suppress disease progression in wet AMD by reducing vascularization and edema in the macular area, thereby maintaining or improving visual acuity. Unlike current standard anti-VEGF therapies that require intraocular injections, MT-0814 is designed as an oral medication to offer a more convenient and potentially safer alternative for long-term management of wet AMD. Clinical development has reached phase II trials; however, at least one phase II trial was terminated due to safety reasons[1][2][6].
