MT-20R is a novel multifunctional anti-Parkinson's compound designed to address the complex pathologies of Parkinson's disease (PD), including oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, and increased monoamine oxidase enzyme activity. It acts as a potent inhibitor of monoamine oxidase B (MAO-B) both in vitro and in vivo, and also inhibits cholinesterase (ChE) activities and scavenges free radicals. In preclinical studies using a 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP)-induced PD mouse model, MT-20R demonstrated neuroprotective effects by alleviating motor deficits, increasing striatal dopamine levels, restoring tyrosine hydroxylase expression, and preserving dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra. Furthermore, it enhanced Bcl-2 expression, decreased Bax and Caspase 3 expression, and activated the AKT/Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathway, suggesting its potential as a therapeutic candidate for PD.
