Overview

MT-2301 is a conjugate vaccine developed by Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma Corporation for the prevention of invasive diseases caused by *Haemophilus influenzae* type b (Hib), such as meningitis, pneumonia, and sepsis, in infants and children. The vaccine consists of the purified capsular polysaccharide of Hib, polyribosylribitol phosphate (PRP), chemically conjugated to a tetanus toxoid carrier protein. This conjugation enhances the immune response in young infants by converting the T-cell independent polysaccharide antigen into a T-cell dependent antigen, thereby inducing high-affinity antibodies and immunological memory. MT-2301 has been evaluated in clinical trials for safety and immunogenicity, including studies where it was co-administered with other routine pediatric vaccines such as the DPT-IPV (diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, and inactivated poliovirus) vaccine.
