Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MT-238 is a preclinical-stage small molecule mitochondrial uncoupler developed by Mito BioPharm for the treatment of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and cancer. Developed using the company's proprietary 'miunins' platform, MT-238 acts as a functional mimetic of mitochondrial uncoupling proteins UCP1 and UCP2/3. By dissipating the proton gradient across the inner mitochondrial membrane, MT-238 uncouples oxidative phosphorylation from ATP synthesis, forcing cells to increase substrate oxidation and energy expenditure. This mechanism reduces ectopic lipid accumulation in the liver to address metabolic dysfunction in NASH, while also disrupting the metabolic biomass production required for rapid cell proliferation in cancer cells.
