MT-2766 is a recombinant, plant-based, adjuvanted coronavirus virus-like particle (CoVLP) vaccine developed for the prevention of COVID-19. It uses virus-like particle technology to mimic the structure of the coronavirus without containing its genetic material, making it non-infectious and unable to replicate. The vaccine is formulated with GSK's AS03 adjuvant system to enhance immune response and reduce antigen dose requirements. Developed jointly by GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) and Medicago (a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma Corporation), MT-2766 demonstrated positive efficacy in Phase 3 trials, showing 71% overall efficacy against circulating variants at the time (excluding omicron), with higher efficacy against delta and gamma variants. The vaccine induces both humoral and cellular immune responses[1][4][7].
