The MT1-MMP Bicycle Imaging Agent is a diagnostic radiopharmaceutical developed by Bicycle Therapeutics using their proprietary bicyclic peptide (Bicycle) platform. The agent is designed to target Matrix Metalloproteinase-14 (MT1-MMP, also known as MMP14), a transmembrane proteinase that plays a critical role in extracellular matrix degradation, tumor cell invasion, and angiogenesis. Highly expressed in a variety of solid tumors—including non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), breast cancer, and ovarian cancer—MT1-MMP serves as a biomarker for aggressive disease. This imaging agent is primarily developed as a companion diagnostic to support the clinical development of MT1-MMP-targeted therapeutics, such as the Bicycle Toxin Conjugate (BTC) BT1718. By utilizing PET or SPECT imaging (often labeled with isotopes like Gallium-68), the agent allows for the non-invasive quantification of MT1-MMP expression in the tumor microenvironment, enabling a precision medicine approach to patient selection.
