MTBhsp70 (Mycobacterium tuberculosis heat shock protein 70) is a 70 kDa recombinant protein derived from *Mycobacterium tuberculosis* that functions as a potent molecular adjuvant and immunomodulator. It is characterized by its ability to stimulate both innate and adaptive immune responses by interacting with antigen-presenting cells (APCs), such as dendritic cells and monocytes, primarily through receptors like Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) and CD40. In the context of oncology and infectious diseases, MTBhsp70 is utilized as a carrier or fusion partner to enhance the immunogenicity of target antigens, promoting the secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-12, TNF-α) and the activation of cytotoxic T lymphocytes. Conversely, in autoimmune contexts such as rheumatoid arthritis, MTBhsp70 has demonstrated an anti-inflammatory role by inducing the production of interleukin-10 (IL-10) and modulating the cytokine profile of synovial cells. It is currently being investigated in various preclinical and early-stage research settings for indications including cervical cancer, Lassa fever, and inflammatory arthritis.
