Overview

MTBL0036 is an orally active small molecule mitochondrial uncoupler developed by Metabolys for the treatment of type 2 diabetes, non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), and liver fibrosis. By inducing mild mitochondrial uncoupling in the liver, MTBL0036 reduces hepatic gluconeogenesis, enhances peripheral glucose utilization, and stimulates insulin secretion. In preclinical animal models, MTBL0036 has demonstrated significant efficacy in reducing blood glucose levels, improving insulin sensitivity, and decreasing NAFLD Activity Scores (NAS) by reducing hepatic inflammation, ballooning, and fibrosis.
