Overview

MTC-896 is a synthetic peptide and small molecule drug developed by Mimetica for dermatological conditions. It acts as an antagonist of the melanocortin receptor 5 (MC5R), a G protein-coupled receptor involved in sebum production and skin inflammation. By blocking MC5R, MTC-896 is designed to reduce sebum secretion and has been investigated primarily for the treatment of acne vulgaris and seborrheic dermatitis. The drug has reached Phase 2 clinical trials but no recent development or approval has been reported[1][2][3][4][5][7].
