MTC-D1 is a transdermal patch formulation of **dapagliflozin**, developed by Biotts using their proprietary Multicomponent Transport System (MTC) technology. Dapagliflozin is a selective inhibitor of the sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2), which is primarily responsible for the reabsorption of glucose in the proximal renal tubules. By inhibiting SGLT2, MTC-D1 reduces renal glucose reabsorption, leading to increased urinary glucose excretion and a subsequent reduction in blood glucose levels. The transdermal delivery system is designed to provide sustained release of the active ingredient, potentially improving patient compliance and minimizing the gastrointestinal side effects often associated with oral administration of SGLT2 inhibitors. MTC-D1 is currently in Phase 2 clinical development for the treatment of type 2 diabetes.
