MTC-doxorubicin is a formulation of doxorubicin conjugated to a magnetic targeted carrier (MTC), designed to enhance targeted delivery of doxorubicin to tumor sites using an external magnetic field. This approach facilitates higher local drug concentrations at the tumor, while potentially reducing systemic exposure and toxicity compared to standard formulations. Doxorubicin is an anthracycline antibiotic that exerts its anticancer effects primarily via intercalation into DNA, inhibition of topoisomerase II, and generation of reactive oxygen species, resulting in cytotoxic DNA damage and apoptosis. The MTC technology was developed to provide targeted therapy, particularly for liver tumors, and was investigated in clinical trials for this purpose.
