Overview

MTD201 is a sustained-release microparticle formulation of octreotide, a somatostatin analogue, developed using the proprietary Q-Sphera technology. It was designed by Midatech Pharma (now Biodexa Pharmaceuticals) for the treatment of acromegaly and carcinoid syndrome associated with neuroendocrine tumors. The Q-Sphera platform utilizes 3D printing-like techniques to create uniform polymer microspheres that encapsulate the active drug, allowing for a controlled, long-acting release profile. Clinical data suggested that MTD201 could maintain therapeutic plasma concentrations of octreotide with an injection interval of six to eight weeks, potentially offering a more convenient dosing schedule than existing monthly treatments. However, in March 2020, Midatech terminated internal development of the program to preserve capital, making the asset available for external licensing.
