MTI-301-N is an orally administered small molecule inhibitor of stearoyl-CoA desaturase 1 (SCD-1) being developed by Modulation Therapeutics. SCD-1 is a rate-limiting lipogenic enzyme responsible for the synthesis of monounsaturated fatty acids, specifically oleate and palmitoleate, from saturated fatty acids. By inhibiting this enzyme, MTI-301-N aims to reduce hepatic steatosis and improve insulin sensitivity, addressing the underlying pathology of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). While a related variant, MTI-301-C, is being investigated for advanced solid tumors, MTI-301-N is specifically positioned for metabolic liver diseases and is currently in the preclinical stage of development.
