Overview
MTI980 is a lipid-based oral formulation of **estetrol** (E4), a naturally occurring estrogen, developed by **TRX Biosciences** in collaboration with **Mithra Pharmaceuticals**. The drug utilizes TRX Biosciences' proprietary **TRX™ technology**, which is designed to enhance the oral bioavailability and potentially the blood-brain barrier penetration of lipophilic compounds. MTI980 is being developed for the treatment of **central nervous system (CNS) diseases**, with a primary focus on **neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE)**. Estetrol acts as a **Native Estrogen with Selective action in Tissues (NEST)**, exhibiting agonist activity on estrogen receptors in the brain, which is thought to provide neuroprotective effects. It is currently in **Phase 2/3** development.
