Overview

MTP-101C is an investigational oral microbiome therapy consisting of a freeze-dried, encapsulated formulation of fecal microbiota purified from healthy donor stool. Developed by Duke University, it is being evaluated for the treatment of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). The rationale behind this therapy is to modulate the gut-brain axis, as dysbiosis in the intestinal microbiome has been linked to neuroinflammation and disease progression in ALS patients. By restoring a healthy microbial community, MTP-101C aims to reduce systemic inflammation and potentially slow the decline of motor function in fast-progressing patients.
