MTRX31

MTRX31 (also known as Myo-004) is a first-in-class small molecule mitochondrial modulator being developed by MitoRx Therapeutics for the treatment of high-risk, metabolically unhealthy obesity. The drug's mechanism of action involves resetting the balance between fat and carbohydrate oxidation within the mitochondria, which facilitates the elimination of ectopic fat from affected organs without suppressing appetite. In preclinical diet-induced obesity (DIO) mouse models, MTRX31 demonstrated superior weight loss magnitude, quality, and durability compared to tirzepatide, notably without causing loss of lean mass. As of mid-2026, MTRX31 is in the preclinical stage of development.
