Overview

MTX-COVAB36 (also referred to as MTX-COVAB or COVAB 36) is a fully human monoclonal antibody developed for the treatment and prevention of COVID-19. It was discovered by Memo Therapeutics AG using their proprietary microfluidic single-cell molecular cloning and screening platform, which enabled rapid identification of potent neutralizing antibodies from convalescent COVID-19 patients. The antibody targets the receptor-binding domain (RBD) of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, blocking its interaction with human angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), thereby inhibiting viral entry into host cells. Preclinical studies demonstrated strong efficacy in both prophylactic and therapeutic settings against all clinically relevant variants at the time, with low picomolar neutralization potency. Clinical development reached Phase 1 before being halted due to reduced effectiveness against emerging variants such as Omicron[1][2][5][6].
