Overview

MUC-2-KLH is a therapeutic cancer vaccine candidate consisting of the Mucin 2 (MUC-2) protein or peptide covalently linked to the carrier protein Keyhole Limpet Hemocyanin (KLH). MUC-2 is a high-molecular-weight glycoprotein that is aberrantly expressed or overexpressed in several epithelial cancers, including prostate, colon, and breast cancers. The conjugation to KLH, a potent immunogenic carrier derived from the giant keyhole limpet (Megathura crenulata), is designed to overcome immune tolerance to the self-antigen MUC-2. Typically administered with saponin-based adjuvants like QS-21 or GPI-0100, the vaccine aims to stimulate the production of high-titer antibodies and T-cell responses against MUC-2-positive tumor cells to inhibit tumor growth or recurrence.
