MUC1-CT peptide is a therapeutic cancer vaccine candidate composed of the full-length cytoplasmic tail (CT) of the Mucin 1 (MUC1) protein. MUC1 is a transmembrane glycoprotein that is frequently overexpressed and aberrantly glycosylated in epithelial cancers, particularly pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. The cytoplasmic tail of MUC1 is a 72-amino acid domain that plays a critical role in intracellular signaling pathways associated with tumor progression and survival. As a vaccine, the MUC1-CT peptide is intended to serve as an antigenic target to stimulate a robust, antigen-specific T-cell mediated immune response against tumor cells. Preclinical research, often conducted in MUC1-transgenic mouse models, has investigated the efficacy of this peptide in combination with various adjuvants, such as the TLR3 agonist poly(I:C12U), to overcome immune tolerance and improve survival outcomes.
