Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MUC1-KLH + QS-21 is a therapeutic cancer vaccine composed of a glycosylated MUC-1 peptide conjugated to the carrier protein keyhole limpet hemocyanin (KLH) and formulated with the immunological adjuvant QS-21. Developed by Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, the vaccine is designed to induce an immune response against Mucin-1 (MUC-1), a glycoprotein that is overexpressed and aberrantly glycosylated in various epithelial cancers. The inclusion of the KLH carrier and the saponin-based adjuvant QS-21 is intended to enhance the immunogenicity of the MUC-1 antigen and overcome immune tolerance. It has been evaluated in Phase I clinical trials for the treatment of refractory or recurrent epithelial ovarian cancer, fallopian tube cancer, and primary peritoneal cavity cancer.
