Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MUC1-KLH + QS-21 is an investigational therapeutic cancer vaccine developed by Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) for the treatment of prostate cancer, specifically for patients with biochemical recurrence (rising PSA levels). The vaccine is composed of a synthetic glycopeptide derived from Mucin-1 (MUC1), a glycoprotein that is overexpressed and aberrantly glycosylated in various malignancies, including prostate cancer. To overcome the low immunogenicity of the MUC1 peptide, it is chemically conjugated to Keyhole Limpet Hemocyanin (KLH), a potent carrier protein. The vaccine is co-administered with the saponin-based adjuvant QS-21 to enhance the induction of both humoral (antibody) and cellular immune responses against tumor cells expressing the MUC1 antigen.
