Overview

MUC1-KLH conjugate plus QS-21 is a therapeutic cancer vaccine composed of a synthetic peptide derived from the human tumor-associated antigen mucin 1 (MUC1), chemically linked to keyhole limpet hemocyanin (KLH) as a carrier protein and administered with the immunological adjuvant QS-21. The combination is designed to stimulate an immune response against tumor cells expressing the MUC1 antigen. KLH enhances immunogenicity of the peptide, while QS-21 acts as an adjuvant to further boost antibody production and cellular immune responses. The primary indication has been in high-risk breast cancer and other epithelial cancers such as ovarian and prostate cancer. The developer is the National Cancer Institute[2][3][4][5].
