Overview

**MUC1 peptide-diphtheria toxoid conjugate** is an investigational therapeutic cancer vaccine consisting of a dimeric 20-amino-acid peptide from the variable-number tandem-repeat region of human mucin 1 conjugated to diphtheria toxoid as a carrier protein. It was evaluated in a Phase I study in 13 patients with established breast cancer, using three injections at 2-week intervals across dose levels from 0.15 mg to 1.0 mg. The vaccine was generally well tolerated, with diphtheria-carrier delayed-type hypersensitivity reactions reported; MUC1-specific antibody, T-cell proliferative, and delayed-type hypersensitivity responses were weak, indicating limited immunogenicity in the tested formulation.
