MUC1 shRNA is a short hairpin RNA designed to silence the expression of the Mucin 1 (MUC1) protein. MUC1 is a membrane-bound glycoprotein that is frequently overexpressed in various cancers, including clear-cell renal cell carcinoma (cRCC), where it correlates with tumor progression, metastasis, and chemoresistance. By targeting MUC1 mRNA for degradation via the RNA interference (RNAi) pathway, MUC1 shRNA reduces MUC1 protein levels, leading to decreased cell invasion, migration, and anchorage-independent growth in preclinical models. While primarily used as a research tool to validate MUC1 as a therapeutic target, shRNA-based approaches represent a potential modality for gene therapy in oncology.
