This is an experimental chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) therapy developed by Zhujiang Hospital of Southern Medical University for the treatment of relapsed or refractory acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The therapy involves genetically engineering a patient's own T cells to express a chimeric antigen receptor that specifically recognizes MUC1 (Mucin 1), a glycoprotein often aberrantly expressed on the surface of AML cells. By targeting MUC1, these CAR-T cells are designed to selectively identify and eliminate leukemic cells while sparing normal tissues. This therapy is being evaluated as part of a broader clinical strategy (NCT03473457) that explores various antigen targets, including CD33, CD38, and CD123, to address the heterogeneity and antigen escape common in AML.
