MUC4 nanovaccine is an experimental cancer vaccine designed to target MUC4, a mucin protein highly overexpressed in pancreatic cancer and associated with disease aggressiveness and immunosuppression. The vaccine utilizes a recombinant MUC4β fragment encapsulated within a polyanhydride-based nanoparticle delivery system (specifically 20:80 CPTEG:CPH). This amphiphilic polyanhydride platform acts as an adjuvant, providing sustained release of the antigen and enhancing the recruitment of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs), including CD4+ and CD8+ T cells. Developed by researchers at the University of Nebraska Medical Center and Iowa State University, the vaccine has shown potential in preclinical models to suppress tumor progression, particularly when considered in combination with immune checkpoint blockade agents like PD-L1 inhibitors.
