Overview

MUC7 peptide is a cationic antimicrobial peptide (AMP) derived from the N-terminal region of the human low-molecular-weight salivary mucin, MUC7. It is primarily investigated for its potent antifungal and antibacterial properties, particularly against *Candida albicans*, *Streptococcus mutans*, and *Escherichia coli*. The peptide, most commonly studied as a 12-amino acid sequence (RKSYKCLHKRCR), exerts its effect through membrane perturbation and the activation of the calcium/calcineurin signaling pathway in fungal cells. While it has shown promise in preclinical research for conditions like oral candidiasis and dental caries, it remains in the early research phase and has not yet been advanced into formal clinical development by a commercial entity.
