This is an autologous dendritic cell vaccine designed to elicit an anti-tumor immune response. It involves taking a patient's own dendritic cells and modifying them to present tumor-associated antigens, specifically Mucin 1 (MUC1) and Survivin. MUC1 is a glycoprotein often overexpressed and aberrantly glycosylated in various adenocarcinomas, including lung, pancreatic, and biliary cancers, making it a target for immunotherapy. Survivin is an inhibitor of apoptosis protein (IAP) that is highly expressed in many tumors and plays a role in inhibiting apoptosis and regulating cell division. By presenting these antigens, the vaccine aims to activate the patient's T cells, particularly cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs), to recognize and destroy cancer cells expressing MUC1 and Survivin. Some variants of this vaccine may also involve silencing suppressor of cytokine signaling 1 (SOCS1) and stimulating with flagellin to enhance immune response.
