MucoCept

**MucoCept** is a live biotherapeutic product (LBP) platform developed by Osel Inc. consisting of genetically modified **Lactobacillus jensenii**, a commensal vaginal bacterium, engineered to secrete potent HIV entry inhibitors such as cyanovirin-N (CVN). It colonizes the vaginal mucosa to create a self-renewing barrier that sequesters HIV-1 virions, preventing transmission by impeding viral access to epithelial cells and lymphocytes while promoting vaginal health through lactic acid production and immune modulation. The approach is coital-independent, female-controlled, and compatible with other HIV prevention methods; preclinical proof-of-concept in rhesus macaques demonstrated robust colonization and HIV prevention, with a Phase 1 safety trial ongoing in healthy women.[1][2][3]
