Overview

Mucograft is a porcine-derived, resorbable collagen matrix specifically engineered for soft tissue regeneration in the oral cavity. Developed by Geistlich Pharma, it serves as a bio-functional scaffold that promotes the formation of new keratinized tissue and the coverage of gingival recessions, acting as a validated alternative to autologous soft tissue grafts such as connective tissue grafts (CTG) or free gingival grafts (FGG). The matrix features a unique bilayer structure: a compact macro-structured layer that provides mechanical stability and allows for suturing, and a thick, spongy layer that stabilizes blood clots and facilitates the ingrowth of soft tissue cells and blood vessels. This architecture supports rapid integration with the surrounding host tissue without the need for a second surgical site for harvesting donor tissue, thereby reducing patient morbidity and surgical time.
