This is a combination therapy involving mucopolysaccharide polysulfate (MPS) and topical glucocorticoids. Mucopolysaccharide polysulfate is an anti-inflammatory and anticoagulant agent, commonly used for the treatment of bruising, varicose veins, and superficial thrombophlebitis. It also acts as a moisturizer to improve skin barrier function in conditions like xerosis and atopic dermatitis[2][6]. Glucocorticoids are steroid hormones with potent anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties, widely used in dermatology for their ability to reduce inflammation in various skin disorders. The combination of MPS with topical corticosteroids has been shown to mitigate some adverse effects associated with long-term steroid use—such as skin barrier impairment—by improving tight junction (TJ) barrier function through upregulation of claudin-1 expression in keratinocytes[1][3]. This may help delay relapses in atopic dermatitis when both agents are used together.
