Overview

Mucor racemosus refers to preparations derived from the fungal species of the same name, primarily utilized in clinical medicine as a diagnostic allergen extract. It is a standard component of fungal allergen panels used in skin prick testing (SPT) and serum-specific IgE assays to identify sensitization in patients with respiratory conditions such as bronchial asthma and allergic rhinitis. Beyond its diagnostic role, purified extracts of *Mucor racemosus* (often termed *Mucor racemosus e voluminae cellulae*) are employed in research to investigate innate immune responses and calcium signaling in human epithelial cells. Studies have demonstrated that these extracts can modulate intracellular calcium concentrations by interacting with transient receptor potential (TRP) channels, specifically TRPV1 and TRPM8. Historically, *Mucor racemosus* has also been associated with isopathic or homeopathic preparations intended for the treatment of circulatory and inflammatory disorders.
