CUH-MR2601, also known as MucoRice-CTB, is a novel rice-based oral cholera vaccine developed by researchers at the University of Tokyo and Chiba University. The vaccine utilizes the MucoRice platform, where the B subunit of the cholera toxin (CTB) is expressed in genetically modified rice seeds (*Oryza sativa L.*). The CTB is accumulated in the protein bodies of the rice endosperm, which protects the antigen from degradation by digestive enzymes and gastric acid, while also eliminating the need for a cold chain during storage and transport. Upon oral administration, the vaccine induces both systemic (IgG) and mucosal (IgA) immune responses against *Vibrio cholerae*. It is currently being evaluated in Phase I clinical trials for safety, tolerability, and immunogenicity in healthy adults.
