Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Muehlenbeckia sagittifolia extract is a botanical extract prepared from the aerial parts (branches, stems, and leaves) of *Muehlenbeckia sagittifolia*, a climbing shrub native to South America commonly known as zarzaparrilla colorada. In traditional South American medicine, hydroalcoholic tinctures of this plant are utilized for various therapeutic indications, including diuretic, depurative, and anti-inflammatory purposes. Phytochemical characterization of the extract has identified the presence of active flavonoids, including catechin and quercetin 3-O-glycosides. In vitro functional studies have demonstrated that the extract exhibits potent, dose-dependent antiplatelet activity, significantly inhibiting platelet aggregation induced by agonists such as arachidonic acid, ADP, and adrenaline. This antiplatelet effect is believed to be mediated by its constituent polyphenolic compounds, which target multiple pathways of platelet activation.
