Mufemilast (development code HEMAY005-T1) is a novel, orally active, selective **phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE4) inhibitor** developed primarily for the treatment of chronic inflammatory diseases, notably **psoriasis** and **Behçet’s disease**. It inhibits activation of T lymphocytes, a key contributor to the pathogenesis of these disorders, and downregulates Th1-type cytokines including TNF-α, IFN-γ, IL-2, IL-12, and IL-23. Mufemilast aims to advance the efficacy and safety profile relative to apremilast by reducing pro-inflammatory cytokine production and demonstrating improved side effect tolerability. The drug is in advanced clinical development, having completed phase III trials for psoriasis and phase II/III for Behçet’s disease, with ongoing regulatory activities for market approval.
