Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MuGard is a mucoadhesive oral wound rinse designed to manage the symptoms of oral mucositis, a condition characterized by painful inflammation and ulceration of the mucous membranes in the mouth, often resulting from chemotherapy or radiation therapy. The product works by forming a protective physical barrier (a mucoadhesive coating) over the oral mucosa, which helps to shield exposed nerve endings and promote a healing environment. Originally developed by Access Pharmaceuticals (now Abeona Therapeutics), MuGard is marketed through various licensing agreements, including with AMAG Pharmaceuticals in the United States and Norgine in Europe and other international markets.
