Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Mugwort leaf, known in Chinese as Ai Ye, is a traditional herbal medicine derived primarily from the leaves of *Artemisia argyi* and *Artemisia stolonifera*. It is a cornerstone of moxibustion therapy and is also used in oral and topical formulations. The herb contains a complex mixture of bioactive compounds, including volatile oils (such as cineole and camphor), flavonoids, and polysaccharides. Pharmacological studies indicate that mugwort leaf possesses anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and immunomodulatory properties. It has been investigated for its ability to alleviate lipid metabolism disorders by modulating genes like fatty acid synthase (FAS) and carnitine palmitoyltransferase 1 (CPT1), and for its acaricidal effects against human Demodex mites. Historically, high-quality mugwort from Qizhou, known as "Qiai," has been highly valued in traditional practice.
