Overview
Mulberry cream, also known as 桑葚膏 (Mulberry Paste), is a traditional Chinese medicine preparation primarily derived from the fruit of the mulberry tree (Morus alba). It is often concentrated into a paste or cream and is traditionally used to nourish blood and yin, tonify the liver and kidney, and moisten dryness. Modern scientific investigations suggest that extracts from mulberry possess anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. These effects are believed to be mediated through the inhibition of pro-inflammatory mediators and cytokines, such as interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha), and by reducing the expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2). It is currently being investigated in clinical studies for conditions like residual pain after vertebroplasty for osteoporotic thoracolumbar compression fractures.
