Overview

This autologous dendritic cell vaccine is an investigational cellular immunotherapy developed at the Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center (UCLA) for the treatment of advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC). The vaccine is produced by isolating monocytes from a patient's blood via leukapheresis, which are then differentiated into dendritic cells ex vivo. These dendritic cells are 'loaded' or pulsed with multiple tumor-associated antigens (TAAs) derived from the patient's own tumor or specific recombinant proteins. Once matured and activated, the dendritic cells are re-administered to the patient to function as professional antigen-presenting cells. Their primary mechanism of action is to present these tumor antigens to the patient's T-lymphocytes, thereby inducing a systemic, targeted cytotoxic immune response against renal cell carcinoma cells.
