Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Multiload Cu 250 R is a copper-bearing intrauterine device (IUD) designed for long-term reversible contraception. It consists of a polyethylene frame with two flexible, serrated side arms and a stem wrapped with copper wire, providing a total active surface area of 250 mm². The device is inserted into the uterine cavity where it continuously releases copper ions. These ions induce a sterile local inflammatory response in the endometrium and uterine fluid, which is toxic to both sperm and ova, thereby preventing fertilization. The Multiload Cu 250 R is typically indicated for up to three years of use and is manufactured by companies such as Infar India.
